Welcome to the Department of Botany. The Department established in 1964 pioneered science education in Manipur with Pre-University Science courses under Gauhati University. Under the same University B. Sc. Botany pass course was introduced from the academic year 1969-1970. The Botany subject is taught to cover study of plants diversity and economic importance, life form, basic and applied cell and molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, microbiology, biotechnology, bioinformatics, ecology and environment management. The Department organizes field trips to various places of botanical interest so as the botany students can inculcate the nature and diversity of life forms that had already studied in the classes. The Department of Botany has also opened Post-Graduate in M.Sc. Botany from the year 2016 under Manipur University.
Smt. Kh. Ruhini Devi was the first Head of the Department. She continued upto 30.11.1991 when she was promoted as the Principal of the College. Shri. N. Raghumani Singh became Head of Department from 1991 and continued till his retirement in February, 2019. During his headship, one of the most remarkable academic achievements was the opening of Post Graduate course. At present there are 9 faculty members (including 2 utilized teachers) and have 2 non-teaching part time Laboratory attendants. The faculty members have published quality research papers in reputed National and International journals. They also participate in several seminars and conferences.

Sangita Yanglem Devi of the Department secured 2nd position in 2015 in Botany (Hons) under Manipur University and was the Gold medalist in P.G. Life Science under Manipur University.
