Manipur College has two units of NSS (National Service Scheme), which works on the advice of an NSS Advisory Committee, with the Principal as its president. The committee is to be reformed for every three years. Each of the units has one hundred volunteers enrolled. Unit-I is led by its Programme Officer Dr P. Birchandra Singh and Unit-II by Dr Janatun Begum.
Practically, the two units have been conducting each and every R/P (Regular Programme) and S/P (Special Programme) unitedly so far. NSS Units have been taking a major role in keeping the college campus clean and eco-friendly. Apart from campus cleaning programmes at the college, the two units have been conducting from time to time environment–oriented programmes like tree plantation, cleaning of public tank, awareness on plastic management etc. at the adopted village i.e. Mongsangei, about three k.m. away from the college, in collaboration with the local youth club of the village. The contribution of NSS in regard to students’ personality development is noteworthy. Inculcation of the spirit of voluntarism, selfless service and discipline as part of value education signifies the role of NSS in a student’s college life.
